There are 52 Million African Orphans today. WHY aren’t we helping more?
IT’S A FACT! Living on the world’s poorest continent, African children today have a 1 in 5 chance of being orphaned before age 18.
Why? AIDS will kill the parents of one-third of them. Many rely on an older sibling or neighbors (referred to as Grannies) for support.
As Rotarians, we stepped into this frightening reality determined to improve ways of providing clean water, sanitation, healthcare, food, and education.
WE CAN DO BETTER! We can bring opportunity and hope to some of the most neglected children in Africa, and we know that investing in their future now improves chances these children will:
- Not be a burden to their extended family members
- Develop and thrive on their own
Contribute to building stronger, more peaceful societies
Make a long-term commitment to education and the benefits it provides to their entire community
WE’RE ALREADY HELPING. YOU CAN TOO!
Since 2005, the African Orphans Relief programs have been helping the most vulnerable among us get access to:
- Clean water and sanitation
- Expanded healthcare
- Food production strategies
- Quality education
- Long-term shelter
AND THERE’S GOOD NEWS! We’ve made progress, helping improve life for children we’ve touched. Yet there are so many more youngsters who need our help.
A FEW DETAILS:
We’ve already placed over $2 million dollars throughout South Africa into communities needing help, turning barren and mistreated land into productive gardens.
We’ve brought in the proper equipment to find fresh water and drill new wells.
And we’ve expanded opportunities at every turn to help tomorrow’s leaders see there’s more to life than misery and sorrow.
But with HIV/AIDS, hunger, poverty, ignorance, neglect, corruption, and global warming all conspiring to prevent success, these youths need a helping hand to create a new and productive life.
They’re counting on us.
